The license management component of User Access Management within an enterprise can be difficult where there is a large workforces, dozens or hundreds of applications, many with several licensing options at various price points.

Keeping track of costs associated with license tiers being incorrectly, and reclaiming licenses issued to employees who have left the organisation can be challenging.Some solutions exist, such as ServiceNow Software Asset Management among others, but these often offer outstandingly expensive licensing models, often charging per user or per license, or they take significant infrastructure effort and expenditure to set up and maintain discovery tools, to assist with the management of licenses.

For a large enterprise, willing to invest time and energy into designing and deploying these solutions, it may pay off in the long run.

It has been difficult to find a simpler and quicker solution, and without the enterprise price tag. Within my place of employment, this frequently comes at a cost: either through hours spent on trawling through license allocations to find recovery or downgrade opportunities, or through the cost of wasted or disused licenses.
